Network Maps
BUILD, MONITOR, and MANIPULATE YOUR SYSTEM THROUGH AN INTUITIVE MAP SOLUTION. Traverse connections, manage assetS AND thresholds for optimum performance. nETWORK MAPS MIRRORS YOUR NETWORK SO YOU ARE IN ULTIMATE CONTROL.
Users
The Department of Defense attracts users from all over the country with different levels of education, tech adoption rates, and views of the world. Through discovery, we found two user groups that are most likely to interact with Network Maps. These groups are the Minimally Trained Operational User and the Technically Trained Admin User. Both will interact with the systems and networks, but the level of expertise and types of monitoring between groups can be vastly different.
Solution
CodeMettle set out to create a network map solution to give minimally trained and technically trained users more understanding, flexibility, and power over their environments. Network Map is an all-encompassing mirror of the user’s environment and is utilized best when added to CodeMettle’s Terminus.
Problem
Our users are consistently functioning in environments where they need to build and reconfigure networks from the ground up. Users need the ability to visualize, set and maintain assets, connect to neighbors, and easily understand and troubleshoot their system. With complicated networks, it can be extremely difficult to maintain and control it all, especially at the tactical edge.
Research and Ideation
Within in the mapping vertical, we began with surveying and interviewing the individuals who have used these products and mapping systems. We learned from our competitors and the basic needs our different personas in monitoring and management within their different roles
Ex: Once the node is configured from admin permissions, our operational user, spends whole day monitoring whether the devices are UP and in range. This takes up a significant amount of time and resources, and mistakes can often be made.
Many lower level users do not have information to set up device configuration. Network configuration needs to be set at the NOC level.
Usability Testing
We conducted feedback sessions in the low fidelity ideation and sketching stage with internal and external users to quickly pivot the designs before reaching higher fidelity. We designed Network Map with the Terminus team partner users and conducted cross-product usability testing.
Feedback Included
Based on other network topology products, some older users may need an in-app training or onboarding for the first time.
